Encoding and Compression
What is video compression?
It’s the process of taking video and condensing it down to a smaller, more manageable size. The goal of effective compression is to also maintain quality while at the same time making the file smaller.
In today's changing media environment understanding video compression is important. Our client's use video in a variety of formats including web, mobile, digital signage, DVD, and Blu-Ray. The experienced team at Creative Liquid will work with your needs to make sure you are provided with the digital video files that meet your distribution needs.
Did you know...
With today's compression techniques, it's possible to stream HD resolution video online while at a manageable size and data rate? This is important if your video is destined for the web. Also, even if your video is produced in HD, it can be compressed to multiple sizes to fit existing website video players.
Before you start
- What type of file(s) do you need? (Quicktime, WMV, Flash, etc)
- What frame size does your video need to be?
- Do you need a specific codec? This is important if we are delivered raw, unedited footage to your team.
- Where will the file be used? (YouTube, Facebook, Your Website, etc)
How is compression billed
We bill compression on a per hour basis. Compression is available for both HD and SD projects. Additional storage fees may apply to your project. For delivery of projects with large files we provide clients with a hard drive. A hard drive fee and shipping fees will apply. Contact us to find out how to budget for compression.
What you need to know
When you start your project with Creative Liquid make sure to provide the following information:
- Will you need the files to play on a Mac or PC or both?
- Will you need multiple backup copies?
- Do you need a copy of all raw media and project files or just your finished video?
- Do you have a hard drive we need to pull footage or materials from?
- Will you need us to provide you with a hard drive for file delivery?
- If the video is going online do you need it in 16:9 or 4:3?
