It's been a busy start to 2012 and we have been busy working on a variety of projects. We have also picked up some really cool new production toys! In December we acquired a brand new Panasonic AG-HPD24PJ master quality recording deck. The purchase enhances our P2 capabilities and gives us a way to record AVC-Intra 100 master quality files from our Panasonic HMX100 switcher. The deck holds two P2 cards and can run off of AC or the same D54 batteries that power our smaller P2 cameras.

We are very happy to see Apple came out this morning with the first major update to Final Cut Pro X!  Two of the biggest highlights of the update are XML and SAN support.  SAN support is necessary for multi-seat environments like Creative Liquid.  XML support will bring back much of the functionality that exists within Final Cut 7; this includes sharing projects among different applications.  XML will also open the door for potentially bringing Final Cut Pro 7 projects into FCP X.

If you have read any of my comments on Final Cut Pro X, you already know that I have adopted the wait and see approach.  While the software is lacking a few important features, I do believe the application has many features professional editors will like.

At Creative Liquid we continue to edit our client projects on Final Cut Pro 7.  All of our edit suites also have Adobe’s Production Premium Suite CS5.5.  We also support one Avid Media Composer 5.5 seat.  Currently, we have Final Cut Pro X on one computer for testing and training purposes.

What is the best solution for hosting videos on the web?  Clients ask this question quite frequently.  Many often turn to YouTube.  Others pay a video hosting company, but this can get quite expensive.  YouTube offers great high definition streaming, but companies are also stuck competing with millions of videos that virtually anyone with a smart phone can upload.

With all of the discussion the past few weeks over the release of Final Cut Pro X, I wanted to share a brief success story.  A good buddy, and fellow shooter, Chris Seivard send me his thoughts on FCPX after he had to download the software in a pinch.
